The Ultimate Guide to Bridal Makeup in Minneapolis

Preparing for your bridal makeup can feel overwhelming, no matter how much you know about makeup! Below we’ve compiled a few helpful tips and tricks to take the overwhelm out of a small piece of wedding planning.
Bridal makeup trends are exactly that- a trend! But just because it’s trending doesn’t mean it can’t be classic! The trick here is to decipher what exactly it is you like about the trend and think about how that translates for you, your face and skin tone. For instance, loving the red lip trend but literally never wear lipstick? Maybe instead of a full coverage lipstick you should consider doing a red gloss or tinted lip balm. Loving the no foundation look but feel like you need more coverage? Consider utilizing a concealer and tinted serum. This will give you coverage only where you need it and a soft, natural glow everywhere else.
This one has a bit more wiggle room. For instance, if you absolutely adore a bold smokey eye, or feel most like yourself with a beautiful pink lipstick, don’t let your wedding style force you into something else. But if you are just unsure about makeup in general and want something that ties into your overall theme, we’ve got you covered. Three things to consider, time, place, and balance.
Time- Is your wedding earlier in the day? Or late afternoon?
Place- Are you having a formal wedding or a more casual barn/outdoor ceremony?
Balance- Does your makeup look balanced on your face (for example: when seeing yourself in a photograph are all your features equally visible? Or is all the attention focused on one area, like your eyes or lips?)
While these aren’t hard and fast rules, they are things to consider when planning your bridal makeup. Bold, red lips and a deep smokey eye might seem out of place on a Sunday morning brunch wedding while a bare, no makeup look might feel like not quite enough when you are under sparkling chandeliers at your black-tie event.
Well hydrated skin is a key component to a beautiful makeup application, no matter the style you choose. Invest in some type of exfoliant (this is a great affordable option!) and utilize it a couple times in the month before the wedding. This will accomplish 2 things, one it will give you time to try the product out to make sure you don’t have a reaction right before the wedding day, and two, it will remove dead skin so that your hydrating products (we love this moisturizer!) are able to penetrate your skin barrier. This will provide long lasting, healing hydration.
Hydrated skin, blotting papers, and your own personal lip kit will do wonders on the wedding day. Hydrated skin will hold your makeup better (no flaking here!), making this step even more crucial. As the day progresses our skin naturally produces oils, rather than piling more makeup on to hide it, keep some blotting papers handy to gently blot out any excess moisture. And don’t forget your lips! Even long-lasting lip stains will require some sort of reapplication. While your makeup artist can offer you a small sample to re-apply with, we highly recommend picking up your lip products so you have access to the full size product. This makes application much easier, and you will have a fun memento from your wedding day. Maybe you wear it again on your first anniversary, such a fun detail! And don’t forget your setting spray! We love this one!
We hope you found this helpful! Remember, your bridal makeup should be all about you. What makes you feel beautiful? Once you’ve answered that question everything else will fall into place.
